During the night, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have resulted in power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were hurt while residents in eastern districts were plunged into darkness and faced disruption to drinking water, per reports from city officials.

Meanwhile, a young boy was fatally injured in a distinct Russian drone strike in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, according to regional authorities.

Russian forces has escalated strikes on energy facilities over the last fortnight, while the country's government has requested "concrete actions" from international partners to increase pressure on Russia.

"What is required is not symbolic gestures but decisive action - from the America, the EU and the Group of Seven - in providing defensive weapons and applying sanctions," mentioned in a public message.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and more than 30 missiles struck energy facilities, describing such assaults as "cynical and calculated" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Moscow was "inflicting a massive strike" and repair crews were striving to fix the damage.

A series of attacks struck energy infrastructure and residential structures in the capital.

Five out of the nine people hurt in the attacks on the city have been taken to hospital, per statements from city authorities.

He said utility staff and officials were anticipating more assaults.
